Van sommige mechanismen is algemeen geweten dat ze verwerpelijk zijn, wat ze voor velen nog aantrekkelijker maakt. Het is een uitdaging geloof en materiële zelfbevrediging over 1 kam te scheren en op die manier hun beider bestaan tot bewuste opties te herleiden. Dit alles roept de vraag op waarom het zo moeilijk is het leven op zichzelf te aanvaarden, zonder de wetenschap dat men het lot een wil kan opleggen. (89)
