Ik hou van dogma's, wetten en restrikties. Al is het om hun uiteinden af te tasten, tot waar nog net gegaan kan worden, en daarna verder. Want eigenlijk zijn mensen dieren en het allermenselijkste aan hun mechanisme is de drang driften te leiden, aan banden te leggen, als bescherming tegen zichzelf.
Het is daarom dat ik met eenzekere warmte alle instituties aanschouw, ze in hun konteksten zie baden, botsend en draaiend, ze koester als verworvenheden, zeer dierbaar.
Regels en strukturen, opsommingen en onderverdelingen liggen me daarom aan het hart. Ze stralen een goedgemeende bemoeizucht uit, die heilzaam werkt. (90)
I love dogmas, laws and restrictions. Even if only to feel their extremities, just up to where one still can go, and later further down.
Because people are actually animals and the most human aspect of their mechanism is the instinct to control their urges, to restrain them, as a protection from themselves.
That is why I observe all institutions with certain warmth, to see them bathed in their contexts, clashing and spinning, to cherish them like acquisitions, very preciously.
Rules and structures, lists and subdivisions, are very dear to me. They radiate a sincere interference, which has a wholesome effect. (90)
