De behoefte aan mysterie vertegenwoordigt een kompensatie in het licht van schuldgevoelens in verband met het verwaarlozen van kansen.
M.a.w. men praat zichzelf de behoefte aan mysterie aan omdat men te lui is tot de daad over te gaan en het mysterie te doorgronden.
Het besef een kans gemist te hebben ligt immers zwaarder op de lever dan de onmacht de realiteit te grijpen.
Eigenlijk is het de vrijwillige onderdanigheid aan meester onmacht die dan namen krijgt als kontrolegemis, luiheid en gemakzucht. We laten alles bij het oude en we hoeven niet te denken. De leegten aldus geschapen heten "vrije tijd" en kreëren het probleem genaamd "opvulling". (89)

The need for mystery constitutes a compensation for feelings of guilt being the case when related to missed opportunities.
In other words, one talks oneself into the need for mystery because one is too lazy to start acting and to get to the bottom of the mystery.
After all, the realisation that one missed an opportunity by far outweighs the incapacity of seizing the reality.
Actually that is when the voluntary subservience to master impotence is called lack of control, idleness and sheer laziness.
We leave everything as before and thus we don't need to think. The so created emptiness is called "leisure time" and creates the problem called "fill the time". (89)
