Macht als gevolg van ambitie is gevaarlijk, obsceen, wekt hoofdzakelijk agressie op, is verwerpelijk. Deze macht ontstaat vanuit een drang die genetisch vernietigd zou moeten worden.
Enkel de macht die voortspruit uit een kombinatie van bekwaamheid, inzicht en doorzicht is aanvaardbaar. Deze macht wordt in stand gehouden door respekt, dat automatisch opduikt bij de personen door en voor wie die macht geclaimd wordt. Macht mag immer slechts de grootte hebben van de zaak waarvoor ze wordt aangewend.
Verwerpelijk ook is vrijwillige en doelmatige machtsontplooiing. Ze mag slechts ontstaan daar waar een behoefte leeft, m.a.w. daar waar een probleem bestaat dat niet door enkelen of een groep opgelost kan worden. Eens de macht haar taak volbracht heeft, haar doel bereikt, dient ze zich tegen zichzelf te beschermen en zich bij gebrek aan behoefte te ontbinden.
Er is slechts behoefte aan macht als er mensen zijn die erom vragen. Deze vraag mag echter niet ontstaan uit gemakzucht, na ophitsing of berekening van de betreffenden.
Ik spreek hier over macht op voetpaden, in trams, in cafés, klaslokalen, kantoren en parlementen. (83)

Power resulting from ambition is dangerous, obscene, provokes mainly aggression, is obnoxious. This power originates from an urge that should be annihilated genetically.
Only the power that springs from a combination of skill, insight and understanding is acceptable. This power is preserved through respect which crops up automatically with people by and for whom that power is being exerted.
Also objectionable is the voluntary and functional ostentatious display of power. This can only come into being where a need arises, in other words when there is a problem that can’t be resolved by some or a group of people. Once power has completed its task, reached its goal, it has to protect itself against itself and to disband itself when there is no need for it.
There is only a need for power when there are people who ask for it. This demand should however not come out of laziness, after instigation or calculation of the concerned.
I am talking here about power on sidewalks, in trams, in bars, classrooms, offices and parliaments. (83)
